    Yet another BCG thread....

...lol.......seems like a pattern lately..Anyways took out the mutt , as it hasn't been out in a while( I live by no ranges so the hills I go, but snow has dampened that-but it's about over I hope)..so have not for a while as I'm thinking of redoing or whatnot but anyways..I always clean/wipe down my crap every time usually, and noticed this .

Story all new parts 16" middy - uber cool , too expensive phosphate bcg IMO..you can tell from the pics, warning not a bashing thread

So I get down to the bcg , do a simple tear down and clean as usual , putting back together notice the inside ( assuming chrome lining) inside the carrier where the bolt rides is wearing pretty gnarly and has guoges/ scratches in it, also can tell the edge is knocked up and fugly..also rust...and again only been out twice-100 rounds maybe and cleaned well before I used it and during, after etc...

The lube I used - froglube

I also noticed this gun doesn't feel smooth when you dry cycle it and also seems to rip on the brass pretty good and beats the shit out of my brass then all my others, like a very strong ejector spring.. I'm maybe a little OCD/Anal but I notice this shit and from what little use-money I forked out for it I don't like, since I have 2 other RA phosphate carriers/bcg that do a way better job and picked them up on sale for about half price...lol

Ok, so what's everyone's opinion from my pics and hopefully not too long intro, tried to keep it shorter then alamos threads.....

Those were just done quick pics, and with only an iPhone hard to get a good close shot, I'm thinking it's only gonna get worse? Contact manufacturer or shoot more then re evaluate?

That bore looks like shit honestly. How did it look new? Hard to tell in the photo if it's even chrome lined.

I hope you don't mind if I throw my 2 cents in here. If I've overstepped my bounds please let me know. When I look at that, it looks ok to me. Used well but ok. That said every man has his own idea of what is acceptable and what is not. Do you reckon maybe the timing of the action is a touch too quick? (i.e. heavier buffer needed) or perhaps run the carrier sloppy wet? I use an H2 in my carbines and slather the carrier with LSA lube. When I'm done shooting 300 or so rounds my carrier looks like it was dipped in an oil can, but rarely any failures unless I'm shooting steel cased ammo.

It only has 100 rounds through that weapon. So looking well used is a big part of the issue. After 100 rounds a $75 no name BCG shouldn't look that bad.

I went out and shot about 250 rounds this past Saturday. This is a BCM carrier group. It has roughly 3000 rounds on it. I haven't cleaned my rifle (I'm a pig. I know) so it should be a good yardstick comparison for you mustangfreek. I hope it gives you some useful information to compare and contrast with. About half the rounds on this were shot from a bench and the other half running high volume fire drills.

    EDIT:
schambers asked for a photo of the bolt. I am not sure if he was addressing me or the OP but I threw it up here just in case. I run my rifles wet. Real wet. What I shot on Saturday was Privi-Partisan SS109. This carrier group has shot about half brass and half cheap wolf or tula steel case.

I can't tell from the pictures what or how deep it is. But from a fuzzy picture (sorry) it looks like it could be imperfections in the metal.

If it's rough, pitted, or flaking off then that to me would be not cool. It might not affect the function of the gun but that wouldn't be cool.

Try to lightly run something with an edge over those surfaces and see if it's gritty or rough or pitted or whatever. Just gently use a small sharp pocket knife or whatever and see if it's pitted or whatever.

    Is that an Umbrella BCG?

Can you take some pics of the bolt?

I'm just spitballing, but here are two things off the top of my head based on the kind of damage you are describing.

1.) There is some pin or a burr or something on the bolt that's causing it to scrape the carrier when the rifle cycles. Maybe the bolt cross pin is loose and bouncing around in the carrier?
2.) Some process at the factory wasn't done correctly and the carrier lining is weaker than it should be, or the BCG left the factory with gouges.

*edit* also though of this when typing: maybe the bolt had something wedged in it that is causing excessive wear on the carrier?

No offense here and I'll answer best I can,I don't think it's kosher for a premium bcg for 100 rounds when all my other cheaper ones with more mileage are Almost perfect.

Not sure on the timing thing, not my first 16" middy, have used carbines & H, this gun has a H right now, don't have a H2 to try.

Well as you'll see in my next post with pics, it looks, feels and if was chrome lined was a crappy application or something, yes pits and can feel ridges in the bore, not real happy about it, shouldn't be like that in that many rounds

Yes umbrella bcg, sorry forgot to take pics of the bolt, but went over it and see no abnormal wear on the body or back of the lug area where it makes contact, nothing. Looks like just a crap job in the bore.

Nothing wedged, I'm OCD and clean , pull apart , indirect, oil before and after every outing..

Okay back to this, busy and other life shit to deal with but this was on the back of my mind all day, so here are some pix and descriptions , best I can do with my iPhone but I think there a little better, other carrier in the pic is a RA one with mAybe a 1k rds on it, wanted to compare, yes there are lines in the bore, guoges or pieces missing, rust and edge is fubar, again I'm OCD and keep my shit oiled and look over everything pretty well everytime, this thing is only getting worse and it obviously skipped QC or crappy chrome lining-if you want to call it that

    Okay no flash

    Flash was off

Okay comparison pic rainier carrier that runs great 1k rounds chrome lined etc and umbrella bcg that has all the ugliness , notice the difference pretty easily the umbrella bore looks bad for almost new vs a lesser $$$ carrier with some miles

Ideas ? Like said always lubed and in this case up until this outing it was piled and only had froglube used on it, anyways contacted umbrella to see what they say.Im not happy with it for the price of them

Edit: pix aren't the best , can't get it close enough and focus, you can zoom in somewhat and see better..

Boy! That side by side really brings your point home. Hopefully Umbrella will be cool and use the opportunity to really stress test their product. You might ask them if they will send you some bulk ammo and let you really hammer down on that carrier to see what happens to it after a thousand rounds of hard usage. If they don't let you do that, then hopefully they will and produce the results and/or solution to the issue.

I would definitely be sending that back. Without question. I don't know what caused it but the end result is the end result.

The problem is, there's been a lot of trouble getting a hold of anyone at UCWRG.
