    Smith & Wesson M&P 15-T

I have a friend that is looking for her first patrol rifle. Searching around I have found that the Smith & Wesson M&P 15-T has a lot of accessories at a fair price. I haven’t had a chance to finger one of these and I would like some feedback on how they perform. If you have one of these in your arsenal give me the dirt. The DD forearm and battle sights don’t do us any good if the important stuff come up short.

Unless they switched, I believe the 15T uses a Troy rail, not DD.

Not a T, but I did have a 15A and it was GTG.

The low profile gas block on the newer Ts is pinned, but the early models were attached only with set screws. Make sure it is the pinned version, which you can tell by looking.

Also, newer Ts will have M4 feed ramps and earlier ones didn't. Again, easily identified by looking.

You're right, it is Troy not DD. My brain was shutting down for the night. Check gas block and feed ramps......Good to know, Thank-you!
Anyone else have any opinions on the M&P rifles?

What is she looking at for a price, and is she including accessories in that price?

Most of the guys I know buy the weapon at one time (when their wife lets them), and then they work OT to get the additional components as needed.

    scumhunter,
I have one and it has been excellent. The only issue was with some low powered Wolf ammo that short stroked. It would fire and eject the 62gr rounds but did not create enough "oomph" to get the bolt back and grab another round. It was 100% with 52gr Wolf and has been 100% with everything else.
Accuracy is good and everything they sent it with worked as advertised. Be sure to loctite the iron sight mounting bolts once you have them set. They tend to work loose if you don't.
Like Stickman said. Good deal or not depends on the purchase price.

I have a guy that will sell the 15-T for just under $1,200. The buyer just moved departments and took a pay cut so the extras will be added over time. This is more than she wanted to spend up front but with the TROY battle sights and foregrip it seems like a fair deal. I guess the truth is I want her to buy it with these accessories so I don't have too. She knows me too well and I won't be able to wait for her to trick it out over the course of several months. She will smile and say next month and I'll go buy it....... Damn this addiction.

    ------------------[puke]
I have never used Wolf ammo in anything, I've heard too many bad things. If I had a gas piston set up I might consider it for plinking since cleaning wouldn't be as big of an issue.

They're coming out with a Magpul Moe M&P, but I can't find when or how much it will be. It looks just pretty much just like the Noveske Mag-MOE did, but no Magpul lower.

I had one that S&W had to buy back in the Stag days but the newer ones should be good to go. The only thing that is a downer a friend just bought a brand new one and it had a DPMS LPK.

I had heard that when they first came out they were having funciton problems. I got to looking around on the web expecting to hear all these horror stories but you are the first to step up. I guess i'll take that as a sign that they worked the bugs out.

They are doing things inhouse now and are doing a decent job. I bought the S&W "just because" as there are barrels that fit me better on the market.

I'm a big Magpul fan but I'm not sold on this moe handgard just yet. Clearly functional but just isn't as sexy as the rest of thier killing tools. I'm sure it will grow on me over time. Thanks for the pic!

    SH,

No one can tell you if you should like the looks to something or not. I can't even remember my original thoughts when I first saw it over a year ago. I do know that the production version is nicer, and it feels good in my hands. I think its a great layout for a KISS weapon.
