Forgive my ignorance, but what is the A5 difference? If you buy this does a standard spring and buffer work in it? While I'm asking, does anyone have a preference over this Magpul, a BCM tube or ALG Defense. (No markings on the ALG.)

A5 receiver extensions are slightly longer, since A5 buffers are longer.

Magpul is offering two receiver extensions: one is for AR15 carbine buffers and springs. The other is for AR10/SR25 rifles using a carbine buffer (since the bolt is longer), or you can use it on an AR15 with an A5 buffer and rifle length spring.

Okay. I understand. Thanks. Any preference over BCM vs ALG Defense carbine buffer tubes if price is equal?

I prefer LMT extensions over all others. Very slick inside, drain holes, and reasonably priced.

BCM 7075 carbine receiver extension is $38.95.
LMT 7075 carbine receiver extension is $46.83.
    BCM 7075 A5 receiver extension is $44.95.

Magpul is priced a bit high and offers no advantages. In fact, compared to the LMT, the Magpul is worse.

And LMT makes the best receiver extensions on the market IMHO ... hands down. The threads are perfect, and the dry lube helps with super tight stocks.

I had a LMT extension on a poly lower I ultimately destroyed. Not only did I break the lower but also a stock and the extension had 1 small scuff when the latch on the stock sheared off. Stock fitment seems to always be the tightest on their extensions also.

    Magpul Industries Enhanced Receiver Extensions

Ordered a LMT. :) Any advice on spring and buffer combinations for mid-length 16" rifles. Tubbs? Sprinco Blue & 3.7 Oz buffer? White and standard buffer? How do you know? Experiment?

You'll probably have to experiment. You want to go for brass ejection at 4 o'clock. On my middy 16" I have a Sprinco blue and Griffin SOB (4.9 oz) for shooting suppressed...Springco white works perfectly unsuppressed.

I'm buying one in a day or two to play with, I think.
