    Receiver options

Have wanted to do a 308/6.5 build for a while, nothing crazy as can't go all out but a good plinking/shtf/or hunting gun so no bench heavy setups but a 16-18" gun that isn't too heavy.

Well I know about all the ar15 receiver options out there but haven't payed as close attention to the ar10 ones.

So from cheap to expensive what are some options, the aero sets look Allright and are priced decent for me but anything else in the same range or how much more for something still decent?

Just spitballing and bored but was looking at my crap and have 2 ammo cans full of 308 and no guns to shoot it up with...

As far as stripped receivers go the Aero Precision M5 is probably the most affordable. $504 for the lower, upper and handguard when they are in-stock. Will be interesting to see if small frame receivers will become available. With the small frames more AR-15 parts are compatible, and they are a lot lighter. The Mega small frame SF-Maten weighs 7.2 lbs.

Don't get the Ginger started on Aero. He had a bad experience and I think he still has nightmares from it.

Also on the low price end you have Palmetto State Armory's PA10. I do have an Aero M5 set and I like it. I think Aero is a good value and they are more or less local to me.

The set I'm most excited about, however, is the 2A Xanthos. http://2a-arms.com/products/xanthos-...e-receiver-set

Unfortunately, they are even more expensive than the Mega Maten sets but they save you about a pound of weight, which is nice for the platform.

Played with the 2A Xanthos at the NWSSE. Crazy light, would be a great chassis to build on. Also the Mega MATEN SF was in the 7lbs range as well. However, only available as complete weapons for now.

Most .308's are sold in sets and for good reason.

As far as stripped lowers Black Rain, CMMG and Aero are decent choices.

Palmetto's have proprietary take down pins and bolt catches so the savings aren't what they appear to be when your LPK needs another $30 in parts that will fit. They also fit standard DPMS uppers very poorly.

But honestly the best stripped .308 lowers seem to be the 80% variety.

    Apex pricing.

2a Xanthos receiver set is $631.
Mega Maten receiver set is $520.

$111 difference isn't bad when you factor the whole build together.

I like the Xanthos. Mine with 6.5C Proof barrel is 7.75lbs. If I went 308 Faxon, I could have easily knocked off a pound.

But he can do a Ginge-Aero theme build!

Mustang, I don't think there's such a thing as a .308 build that's good and cheap. From what I keep hearing the best option is to go ahead and buy a complete rifle from a manufacturer with a good reputation unless you have a hard-on for spending all your free time troubleshooting.

Ginge-Aero? That's priceless lol. Maybe with a battle worn red or orange receiver set?
