Just wanted to say hi and my first post to be an interesting one. This project was wrapped not to long ago. Just wanted to see what you guys think.
Hope you enjoy:
started with, a vltor vis-1
Standard 5.56 opening. notice the "lip" on the bottom.
Just for reference, this is how a standard ejection port would handle a .50
Measure 5, 6, .... cut once
Clean up time. the shell deflector ended up coming off later for a deep clean
Barrel specs:
Satern Machine
7.5" 12.7x42
Stainless Steel button rifled
49/64x20 threads
.875 gasblock
finished in tefon
matched bolt
and one to put it in perspective

Now that's a skull cracker! I would not want to use that in a hd scenario! Very nice build.

Looks like you ruined a perfectly good VIS-1

WOW! That's pretty cool.
What optic is that? I've seen it a few times but don't recall what it is.Ground Defense 1, Blade Defense 1, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Aliance Shoot House, When Things Go Bad, YSINTG, Carbine 1, DART Medical, NRA Range Safety Officer

That uneven ejection port is tormenting me. It haunts my dreams.......lol

Thanks guys for the kind words.
It drove me nuts that we didn't go across all the way on that ejection port but I chickened out not wanting to go past it. To his defense, my neighbor the machinist, said I got this but I shut him down. And for the record, I did regret not going all the way for about a week or two. BUT, I'd rather be short than have an ocean of waves like some of the dremel jobs I've seen.
As far as wrecking a VIS-!... my brother said the same thing! lol My response is, It's not wrecked till I bring you back two pieces.
And finally, the optic... It's a Holosun 503GU and is holding up very well. These things are built pretty good.I came, I saw, I fell asleep.

About the ejection port, I wouldn't even worry about it. Some super high end 1911's have a similar cut to facilitate the ejection of live rounds.

I'll bet that SOB is LOUD!
I shot some big caliber pistols and you could feel the concussion from 10 yards behind the shooter.
