Here is a shot showing the boat and a skier that is about to start. Note the tower attached to the boat. This is not absolutely needed to barefoot at all. Using a tower is actually a fairly new thing. I know people are going to ask, but no, you do not need any skis to get started. You can do deep water starts numerous different ways with just the rope and a specialized padded wet suit.
