That's crazy. I am learning something new every day here.

Yeah keep the torque within spec and make sure your wrench tines are squared on the nut (like on the castle nut). This nut is slightly harder to time than even the SMOS nuts because it only times at every quarter turn. Took two shims to install the new barrel tonight.

A barrel nut that requires timing but only times every quarter turn is just a piss poor design if you ask me. But then, i'm not a fan of timed barrel nuts to begin with (the standard USGI barrel nut being the lone exception...i've never had a problem timing on of those). ALG does it right, as they not only include the barrel nut wrench and shims, but precise instructions on which shims to use to get it timed correctly on the first try. And i must have gotten lucky with my SMOS barrel nut install, ans i torqued it to 35 ft. lb. and it was just about spot on, only had to torque it down another 5 ft. lb to get it perfect.

LOL that may be able to be arranged... I was gonna try the DiY model, but since I can't even post an upright picture I figured it would be safer for those around me if I bought the machine that has the potential to burn down my house.

ALG doesn't include the wrench any longer. You have to add it when you check out. Surprised a bunch of people recently on one of the other forums.

REALLY?! Wow. That is pretty surprising considering the thoughtfulness of the engineering and user friendliness of their products. What next? Purchase the shims separately as well? Scratch that one off my list...

I'll bring a good bottle of whisky (or whiskey if you prefer) if you'll supply me with a cigar!

I really enjoy a heavily peated scotch (think Laphroaig) with a good cigar.

Thanks, I'll see if I can find some. I haven't strayed far from The Glenlivet. Sonoma Cider is a good "cleanser" for the tongue when cigaring it.

Laphroaig is powerful medicine. If Glenlivet is more your style, maybe try Talisker before stepping up to a peat monster like Laphroaig. But i enjoy the way the smokiness of the peat compliments the cigar. I'm going to have to see if i can round up some Sonoma Cider. Sounds Good!
