Like Pyzik said, it's Teflon tape (my phone autocorrected that to felon tape)
Keeps thread on cans from backing off...just a little cheap insurance

According to DuPont, 620*F is the melting point, but even on centerfire rifle, I've never gotten it so scorchingly hot it's been a gooey mess or anything, and I've done mag dumps on 16" and 18" ARs. I'd be interested to see how hot the threads get versus the blast baffle area of a can
Whenever I remove the suppressor from the host, and I use it Teflon tape on 9mm pistol and 5.56 rifle direct thread cans, the tape has been compressed into the threads and there's usually some amount of carbon blacking, so I use a 9mm bore brush and scrub the old tape off (comes off easily) and put about 1.5 rotations of new tape on. Never had a direct thread suppressor back off while using it, both on 1/2x28 and 13.5x1LH threads

I just found this tape. Looks like it's good 2600. I just wonder how thick it is.
