First Pistol Match
So, I was invited to what was thought to be an IDPA practice match. Turns out it's the last USPSA match of the season (for this club).
I had already committed to going so I am still going to go, though I'm a little nervous as this is the biggest match of the year.
I've been wanting to get into some kind of matches for some time. Slow-fire, no draw, no cross engagement ranges have gotten completely boring. To the point that I don't even go to the range anymore.
I'm not approaching this from the competition side, but more the training side.
Anyone else use competitions as an opportunity to train rather than compete?Ground Defense 1, Blade Defense 1, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Aliance Shoot House, When Things Go Bad, YSINTG, Carbine 1, DART Medical, NRA Range Safety Officer

Tried to answer you yesterday but got distracted at work with actual work imagine that. Yes I like to use competition shooting as training. More for weapons manipulation and I like the fact that you are scored also for shooting from behind cover.
Just a regular guy.

You're going to have to be equally fast and accurate, move around a lot, figure the order of targets and all under time pressure.
Yeah, you're going to be training :-)
Mind you, the 'training' is not going to be tactical (unless you try to make it so), but it will do your shooting a ton of good.
Have fun.

Good Luck Pyzik. Let us all know how it turns out - get someone to take some pics too!
Freedom is NEVER Free. We have to work to protect it and even be willing to die to protect it.

I've been wanting to get into 3 gun for training. Can't ever break free from work to go to a match tho. Went to the range last weekend and did some walking/shooting drills. Pieing. Stuff like that. Lots of mag changes. Only loaded 5 rounds up per mag. First time ever doing anything like that. Definitely room for improvement lol. It helps when there are enough pits to where you can get off by yourself at the range.
Good luck on your match!!

Weapons manipulation, drawing and keeping shots on target accurately and quickly. That's what I'm looking for.
Thanks for the good luck.
A friend is supposed to join me, who invited me. I was gonna take the camera and have him snap some but I think he may be flaking on me.
I may set up the tripod and video myself so I can see what I am doing wrong.
Romeo, I feel ya. I've been wanting to get into matches for a while. Between the wife, the baby, work and volunteering for a local 2A org I don't have much time left.Ground Defense 1, Blade Defense 1, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Aliance Shoot House, When Things Go Bad, YSINTG, Carbine 1, DART Medical, NRA Range Safety Officer

Most people's excuses for not going to matches are just that, excuses. When I say this I'm talking about the people that have never gone, not the guy that goes regularly but has to miss some because of the occasional work/family issue.
Go to the match. Be safe. Have fun. In that order.WWW.TACTICALYELLOWVISOR.NET

It was this morning, though I was politely told to sit this one out (would not be a good first match for me).
There were (pro?) teams there from Canada and other states.
So I watched and snapped some pics. I'll post some up in a bit.
I am hooked though. I have an airsoft M&P and plan on setting up a stage in my drive was and garage.Ground Defense 1, Blade Defense 1, Defensive Pistol 1 & 2, Aliance Shoot House, When Things Go Bad, YSINTG, Carbine 1, DART Medical, NRA Range Safety Officer

That's cool. Glad you went. I've done some GSSF matches just for practice; didn't really care about my score.
