The only 80% lower i own is one of those polymer jobs, JMT? I have yet to finish it. I'd love to get some forged 80% lowers to finish, but the perfectionist ex-machinist in me would want to finish it on a mill, which is something i don't have ready access to anymore.

I am a severe perfectionist but I don't have the know how to do stuff with tools like I should. I can get basic jobs done but I need to go to a class or something and learn milling or whatever. I think if I worked with a pro for a day or two to see how they do it I could get the hang of it....

As for right now if I tried to mill or finish an 80% lower it would look like hammered shit when I was done so I stay away from those (even though it's interesting to me)

If you have an mechanical inclination at all (and from reading your posts, i'm guessing you do), you could learn how to finish an 80% lower toot sweet. Especially using a jig on a mill with a digital readout.

If I take my time I have no doubt I could do it. From simple trial and error on other projects though I have learned that I need to reserve said project for a day when I have extra patience.

Based on my non professional experience with other things your set up time should be 3, 4, or even 5 times as long as it takes to actually cut, drill, or mill the damn thing.

Set-up is critical. I used language that would make mere profanity look like something from a children's book out of the frustration induced in trying to get a job set-up and running smoothly. Now i use that language while sitting in traffic. [BD]

I saw on another forum where they have a forum jig that travels around. One guy gets it working and then they just mail the thing around. I have to go look but I think there over a few years they had several hundred recipients of the jig, if not more than that.
That's a great idea.

Be sure and keep us posted on how it turns out. I'm especially interested in how it goes if all you use is the jig and a drill press.

Deadwing I haven't got to shoot this one yet, and I'll have to look into the trigger adjustment. I had the Legion SAO and really liked it, the trigger was great. Traded the SAO for this one in case I wanted to do some USPSA production division. I have no experience with adjusting the trigger.

It's pretty basic, as it's just an over-travel adjustment. The adjusting set screw is on top of the trigger, so the slide needs to off the gun to make any adjustment to it. But, you can make an adjustment, dry fire the pistol with the slide off (making sure to catch the hammer of course), re-set the trigger, and release the trigger to get it close. I got it just about dialed in without having to keep taking the slide on and off the gun. I'd then load some snap caps, do some dry firing, and fine tune if necessary. But once you get the over-travel set the way you like it, that in conjunction with the short reset trigger will get the reset travel down to just about nothing and allow you to get some stupid fast follow-up shots. It's easily the fastest pistol i've ever shot. Made me feel like Jerry Miculek. [BD]

What caliber is yours? 9mm?

Ghost, what size hands do you have? I have "smaller", not tiny, but smaller than average hands, and it seems every freaking fun from Germany are built to fit LeBron James baseball mitt hands. I'd love to have a 226, but, again, too large for my hands. Owned several Glocks and got rid of most due to fitment. 19's and 23's do fit well though, and all 3 of my M&P's are adjustable by grip, and fit great and with APEX FSS triggers, are perfect.

Wow, too much coffee, didn't mean to rant. I'd just like to own a SIG, if they'd make one that they didn't use bigfoot as a model.[:D]

I have short fat fingers. Sig's I recommend for smaller hands are the Legion SAO, P229 Scorpion and M11-A1. The SAO has the flat faced trigger that has a shorter reach since it's single action only. The Scorpion and M11-A1 both have the short reach trigger. There may be others but those are the 3 I'm experienced with.

The Griffin nut wrench wrench stripped the notches as you can see in the pic. I recorded 58lbs when it failed. The risk of using aluminum barrel nuts that need to be timed. My electric torque wrench didn't beep at the preset for some reason. Griffin nut wrench was fine.

Yeah keep the torque within spec and make sure your wrench tines are squared on the nut (like on the castle nut). This nut is slightly harder to time than even the SMOS nuts because it only times at every quarter turn. Took two shims to install the new barrel tonight.

A barrel nut that requires timing but only times every quarter turn is just a piss poor design if you ask me. But then, i'm not a fan of timed barrel nuts to begin with (the standard USGI barrel nut being the lone exception...i've never had a problem timing on of those). ALG does it right, as they not only include the barrel nut wrench and shims, but precise instructions on which shims to use to get it timed correctly on the first try. And i must have gotten lucky with my SMOS barrel nut install, ans i torqued it to 35 ft. lb. and it was just about spot on, only had to torque it down another 5 ft. lb to get it perfect.

Laphroaig is powerful medicine. :P If Glenlivet is more your style, maybe try Talisker before stepping up to a peat monster like Laphroaig. But i enjoy the way the smokiness of the peat compliments the cigar. I'm going to have to see if i can round up some Sonoma Cider. Sounds Good!

Have you had the Caol Ila 18 year? That one is sublime. And if you're into peat, try the Laphroaig cask strength bottling. Add just a splash of cool water to it and it opens up all sorts of things that were hiding beneath the surface. Lagavulin 16 is the one that got me started on my love of peaty scotch.

Weight and balance are great. It's fairly light compared to my Rem 700 / McMillan A5. It's the 16.5" version. Barrel looks pretty short without a can on it...but it's really the perfect length for running with a suppressor. Bolt manipulation and safety are a little stiff right now, going to break it down and re-lubricate everything, but I'm sure it's something that will just need to be broken in. Already cycled the bolt about a hundred times and it's gotten a little better. Got mine for mostly the same reasons...practice that can be translated to my 308 bolt gun, and picking off the occasional nuisance critter that gets on the property.

Oh well......and a Timex in theory does the same thing as my Omega's.

I do love me a nice Omega Seamaster.

Agency makes a solid pistol, but that's basically why I kept leaning to ZEV. Better prices to what amounts to about the same shooting accuracy for me. The Agency looks better machine wise, but not to justify the extra price for me.

Ooooo. Jealous. I want one really bad but even their industry pricing is out of reach for me right now. I've used one several times, including on three different KAC SR25 variants, and love it. The card behind it with the reticle reference looks like you got the TMR?

Yup, its the TMR reticle. I'm taking it our to zero this weekend so I can write up some initial thoughts. Also curious to see how it works out with a bolt action concept that I've been refining for a while.

I have had much better luck taking a few hundredths off the tail of the bolt than I have with the extended firing pins. If they don't fix it I'd look to that.

Semi finished- will wear a taper mount when Recce 5 arrives in a month or ?? Wanted to use the Griffin M2 BUIS, but with the hole in most forward rail slot the vertical mounting screw is no go. Weight w/o Acog is 5.13 lbs. I promise better pics in NFA gallery when complete.
