Sorry been busy house sold just bought a house in Myrtle Beach Carolina Forest area. Pretty psyched. Seriously, I liked NC well enough to be fine with moving there someday. I have family in JAX and Cocoa Beach, but that's a whole other range on the thermostat. I've lived in heat (OK close to TX), but I'm not a fan and I can take or leave the ocean. Occasional visits to gorge on crustaceans suits me fine.

Ohio is getting aggressive on recruiting public safety. Lateral transfers are the big thing now. The city FD is getting big city guys looking to run less calls. Our last Civil Service exam netted 4 eligible guys out of 20-ish applicants.

OSP is hiring guys that have their POTA and 2 years into an accelerated academy (12 weeks vs. 6 months). That's a pretty good deal for young, village deputies that couldn't score well 3 years ago. You still have to pass their PT exam and all the civil service stuff like psyche eval and lie detector test, but it shows that far fewer people are wanting to be involved in law enforcement and public safety (for now).

The board I sit on vets things like 50% discount on property taxes, free license plates and CCL, any perks we can think of to lure both paid, and volunteer Public Safety personnel.

I wonder what the public safety model will look like in 5-10 years, and if there will even be one if we achieve 3rd world status by then. This shortage isn't helping that trend!
