    Surefire Hi-Caps

They look like USGI mags on steroids:

I don't know if I could ever justify the cost, one 60-round metal mag or a ten pack of 30-round PMAG's...seems like a no brainer to me.

I think that they have use for some specific mil applications, perhaps some 3 gun type stuff, but not for the majority of typical applications. Especially the 100 round mags.
Going prone is not going to be working well with that thing.

They may be cool from an engineering or design aspect...but I see zero practical use for one of the 100 round magazines.

A couple years from now, when the 60 and upcoming 40rd (MagPul or SureFire) have become common for the desired application, it will be hard to look back and see how those weren't used for those niches. The small group of folks who can really use these to full potential are what will keep the cost up, but I do think there is an absolute future for the 60's.
The 100's seem too tailored for a fixed position where a 5.56 rifle weighing over 10lb wouldn't be the ideal choice (larger caliber)

For most folks, a simple 30rd is more than adequate, I'm even pressed to find a real application for my 42rd long mags. I think the weight consideration would be a large part of that as well.

Personally, I prefer 20-round mags over my 30-rounders. I have absolutely Zero desire for anything larger.

I was just thinking th e same thing ....dosn't the 249 saw have a use for clips ....if they have no 200 round boxs with them at the moment, I think the 100 surefire in a stastic postion would work for that.

The USMC is looking for high capacity magazines for their M27 IAR.

I don't think that it is pure coincidence that several manufacturer announce, design or already release magazines that would fit the bill for this formulated need.

What I don't think is that using such magazines in the M249 will have any future. As far as I know newer revisions of the system (M249 SPW, Mk 46) dropped this feature completely, feeding by magazine has been too unreliable in the past.
