Thank you Sir. In Georgia I lived about 20 minutes away from John Harrison. IMHO the best custom pistolsmith for 1911 work. He had a short list of "approved" base guns that he would work on. I emailed him and asked about the Ruger since it was not on the list. After a few email exchanges he said, "Bring it over and let me look at it." I wanted a checkered front strap, night sights, and a trigger job. He took all of about 1 minute to detail strip it and began to tell me what he liked, and what should change. Since this would be his first Ruger, I gave him free hand to do anything he felt necessary, or that would be aesthetically pleasing. While he worked on it, I sent the original medallions to Sarge in Phoenix and asked him to inlay them into a pair of exhibition grade desert ironwood grips. A few months and a couple of dollars later, this was the result.
Blank the slide
"Duty/Carry" Trigger job - 4.5 Lbs
Ball Cut the slide
Replace all internals with Harrison parts (except the barrel)
Harrison Night Sights
Checker the front strap
Install and blend a magwell
Flush cut bevel and polish the barrel - Harrison match bushing
Weld up and recut the frame for beavertail GS
Interrupted French Border on the slide top
Custom Carry Bevel Package
and on and on - the invoice was three pages long.
When the work was completed and I picked up the pistol, Mr. Harrison gave me a signed letter stating it was Harrison Custom's very first Ruger SR-1911 for provenance. A very nice gesture from a true gentleman.NRA Benefactor Member
