Boomfab Titane Bolt Carrier Group

The Boomfab Titane Bolt Carrier Group is allegedly the lightest carrier on the market. I've personally not familiar with Boomfab or their products, but check out all of their other offerings here.

Titanium always costs an arm and a leg. NEMO built a full titanium AR and they want $100,000 for it.

How would this affect your buffer selection? I just installed an A5 and have wondered about having to remove that system for a lightweight BCG.

Standard carbine buffer weight is 2.8 oz. The lightest A5 buffer is the A5H0 which is 3.8 oz. So you'd save an ounce plus a little bit from a shorter buffer tube if you went back to a carbine system. That said, I would think a lightweight bcg and the A5H0 ought to run fine for a gaming gun.

I have progressively gotten lighter and lighter, but I think that it would be a mistake to use a 4.4 oz. BCU unless it's in a competition gun, where you can tweak and tune all you want, without consequences. I've found that using the M16 bolt with a bit extra weight over the "Semi-Auto" bolt runs smoother, and still add a (H) buffer to smooth things out. Again, that's for a target/defensive weapon.

I'd be willing to bet that with this bolt, used to lighten your weapon, would require an H2 buffer at least, just to keep it from beating your rifle to death.

I'm willing to concede that point, if someone can offer experience to prove me otherwise, but I don't think it's the route to a "light weight" rifle. Maybe start with an Adams Arms 1lb. 3oz. barrel and a 6 or 7 oz. hand guard, and go from there, that's what I've gotten to on my third attempt, and it's starting off looking good. There will be no machining out of the mag well, or anything like that, but choosing wisely, you can shave a lot of weight if you think it through.
