The 100 year anniversary of the 1911 firearm

As a big fan of the 1911, I made a point to look at as many 1911 pistols at the SHOT 2011. Somewhere along the way I lost count of how many companies were producing a 1911 in celebration of the 100 year anniversary of the 1911.

John Browning designed the 1911 and Colt was the manufacturer, for those who are not familiar with the history of the 1911. The Colt 1911 served our US military well and to this date the 1911 is still carried by some of the top US military units. The 1911 is well used in the LEO community, the firearms communities and for defending your life and property. The 1911 is admired for it’s design, function, reliability, the 45 caliber and perhaps an understatement, the artistry and craftsmanship by top gunsmiths who make the 1911 a living and working piece of art.

Some pictures I took at the SHOT 2011 do not do justice for the 1911 family. My favorite 1911, the Colt 1911, the special combat and the XSE series 1911 were eye candy I could not walk away from. Sig Sauer had their 1911 and one particular model caught my eye was the newly released, 1911 Scorpion.

I truly wished I had the time to take more pictures and handed all the 1911 there, Kimber, Nighthawk, Ed Brown, Remington, and others. Well there’s always next year.
