Faux retro build - "classic" CAR stock?
I've had this 16" LW on a non-deflector A1 upper and a BM lower for years. My other ARs with RDS get shot more now (read "my eyes are going to shit"), and I'm thinking about having some fun with this old beast.
I'm considering making it more like a Colt 653 or 723 in general appearance. I'd replace the Hogue grip with an A2 out of the parts box until I can find an A1, the Magpul TG with an original and the six position with a CAR stock. I'm not going to make this a true retro build, just an inspired-by carbine.
Who is doing a decent CAR stock nowadays? I'm not finding them at the usual suspects. Do the same commercial vs. Milspec receiver extension specs apply?
As it stands right now:

Nice sticks!
Do the CAR-type four positions come in both Commercial and Milspec? Also, any suggestions on where to find a new or clean one would be appreciated - I'm not finding them at the usual vendors. CTD has Leapers, but I'd prefer quality.

AFAIK, receiver extensions come in both commercial and mil-spec diameters, but I believe only Colt would have the mil-spec version. The others that I know of, and have handled, have all been commercial.
As far as sources go, I’m not so sure. I was looking recently myself, and noticed no one carries these type of stocks anymore.

I think I found them!
M&A has one listed as being a Milspec: http://www.m-aparts.com/productsDetail.asp?id=1073 . I'll try and order one tomorrow.
M1S has one, too - unknown if it's commercial or not.

No experience with this company. Just found them via a quick google search.

Maybe late, but Stag makes the CAR style stock body. And as Quib knows, it you want to be authentic, you'll need an A1 pistol grip and you'll need to swap out the tapered delta ring for a slip ring. Also the older style stocks used a different kind of castle nut. (nitpicking)
I'll see if I can find pics of mine. They all died with my photo host some time back.

I think I'm going to replace the A1 PG and FH and leave it at that. I'm not trying to build a hardcore retro.
