Between you and James I'm going to have to end up trying that mag carrier.

So what is it that I'm seeing in these Sig pics? I didn't think 228s were ever railed (and our M11s weren't either), but the grip looks newer. Wasn't finding a match on Sig's site.

The 228R was released in 09 IIRC and was replaced with the 229. The 229 has a stainless steel slide and some other small changes.

Ah, thanks. I have a 229R, just didn't realize there was a 228R.

Bought this one in 2008ish. I was told at the time it was a limited run of 228R's that were M11's. The M11 markings are what's etched out in the boxes there.
I went into the store looking for a 229R, but they didn't have any, but they offered me one of these for the same price, so that's how I ended up with it.

Interesting. Our M11s were definitely not railed. I *think* the CG TACLET teams I deployed with had 229Rs since they were shooting .40. If the gun store story was true, maybe they were NSW contract guns. I didn't think anyone else used M11s other than most of the Navy portion of Naval Aviation and sometimes NSW. Maybe NCIS.
