I've been running 27.0 Gr. of CFE 223 with the Hornady 55 FMJBT, and it's a nice shooting load. And I'm still .5 gr. under the maximum load of 27.5 Gr.

My brass is total "mutt" brass. A little bit of everything mixed in, both 5.56 MM and .223. Now I'm buying mostly processed stuff ready for loading. The stuff is cleaned, polished, full length resized, trimmed to length, primer pockets swaged, and is ready to receive primer, powder, and lead. I get it here for just $84.00 @ 1,000 when they have it in stock. For that price it doesn't pay to prep it yourself. It goes straight from the box, right into the Dillon. (I just replace the sizing die with a decapping die, to be sure the flash hole is clear before seating the primer). It loads like the wind.
I keep my loads a bit on the hotter side to assure reliable functioning. Most all of my AR's are equipped with M-16 style bolt carrier groups. And the heavier charge weight assures reliable functioning with the heavier M-16 BCG.

I use 26.5gr CFE223 for a slightly SLIGHTLY reduced load (around 2900fps) with 55gr FMJs.
I shoot a lot of Lake City brass but in my bulk loads like this I usually have a bunch of PSD or IMI brass set aside. They’re 5.56 cases and have to be decrimped like normal

Thanks guys, Frankenstien has an adjustable gas block & both have M-16 bcgs, so it looks like hotter would be the way to go, thanks again.... Later on comes working up a 60 gr sp load for hunting, our deer aint very big here in N.Fl. lol....

Yeah I think I might just give those Barnes bullets a try, from what I've seen in utube vids they fit the bill... At any rate I loaded up 3 different loads to evaluate in frankenstien when I get out to Talon again, I've been busy with decapping & resizing 500+ brass that I got from Everglades ammo most of which were LC with a few Winchester, I've also been busy with my woodworking making things for an upcoming wedding in Texas....

I always wanted to get to trying some of the cfe rifle powder but from where I started , using h335 and then aa2230, and then Tac.. after all that I had them all dialed in very well and didn’t need a reason to change really..
Although the heavier pills I was just into Tad and the rest of my barber before I quit as with the powder drops it just didn’t work consistently enough as the ball powders.. I was just reloading for AR’s so had I had other platforms I would of tried others..maybe..

I like CFE a lot, I just don’t use it for precision loads like I see some people doing

I made up 3 different loads for 55gr FMJ, 26 gr, 26.5 & 27 & the 26gr. shot the best in Frankenstien… It was a tossup between 26 & 27 gr, but the 27 gr load tended to string horizontally.. This is with the scope zeroed for the LC M193 , I shot this at around 30 yds. ….
