Sighting in LMT BUIS?

I am very confused with the elevation wheel on my LMT BUIS sights. I have the sights zeroed at 50 yards and they work fine. My question is and i only ask this because i am cheap is, if i want to turn the dial for a 300 yard target shot will it work? I assume that there is a magical yard mark where if you have it zeroed at X amount of yards then turning the wheel up to the 300 yard indication will actually make it hit the paper as advertised?
