Purpose of Item: The Bolt Carrier Group (BCG) is the heart of the weapon. The Carrier houses the Bolt, and bleeds off the gas which drives the weapon. The bolt locks and unlocks the cartridge into place within the barrel. While much attention is paid to the bolt, this Guide should give an overview of the entire BCG.

None needed for assembly or disassembly.


Items Included:

A Bolt Carrier Group usually comes as a complete unit. There are sometimes options or upgrades available such as coatings, extractor inserts, or heavier staking. These options are most often through a dealer, and not through the manufacturer.

Young Mfg National Match Chrome Bolt Carrier Group

The Young MFG BCG is available in the below pictured M16, or AR15 version. Both the Bolt and Bolt Carrier are fully chrome plated. The National Match version is 1/2 ounce heavier than the Young standard BCGs. Young MFG does not stake their Carrier Keys, but since this item was borrowed from Rainier Arms for this write up, it is shown staked as RA stakes theirs before shipping them out to customers.

LMT Enhanced Bolt Carrier Group

The LMT Enhanced BCG is available in the below pictured M16, or AR15 version. The Bolt Carrier features a third port for venting gas, as well as a bolt with split lugs to reduce stress. The Bolt also uses a dual spring setup, and is chrome plated.

LMT Bolt Carrier Group

The LMT standard BCG is shown below in its M16 configuration, and is also available as a AR15 Carrier. Please note that the brass look to this Carrier is from a wire brush, and isn't normal from LMT items. The Carrier was coated pretty heavy, and there was some congealed mess on it. The brass brush wasn't the greatest of ideas, but it cleaned it up quickly.
