WML & handheld > handheld only > WML only.

WMLs for EDC is vastly overrated IMO; I say this as someone who conceal carried SureFire X400-series lights ever since they got their CHL. IIRC, Tom Givens has kept a tally of the shootings his students have gotten into (low three digits, IIRC), and none of them were in a situation where WMLs would have made a difference. After all, a criminal would probably need lighting, too, to try to rob you.

Keep in mind, the utility of the EDC WML is very different from duty use or home defense. There are very few scenarios I can think of where a WML would provide much benefit for a conceal carry piece, since realistically you should be disengaging and not go hunting when threatened, outside of some black swan events.

With the power output of WMLs, some are powerful enough that they can be used to illuminate rooms and the like without pointing a gun at someone, by splashing the light off the ceiling or walls, but it's still nowhere as versatile as a handheld. The advantage of having a two handed shooting grip compared to the much more difficulty skill of shooting with a handheld is significant in raw performance, but then again, raw performance is generally overrated compared to tactics, mindset, initiative, etc.
